The Versatile VHD Hot Distortion Tester is a fully automated instrument that plots the complete hot distortion curve of chemically bonded and resin coated foundry sands to 0.01 mm accuracy. Every curve syncs to the cloud through VSync web sync, so you can store, compare and trend hot distortion results across your foundry from any browser.
HOT DISTORTION TESTER VHD
Description
Hot Distortion Tester VHD
The Versatile VHD Hot Distortion Tester is a fully automated instrument for measuring the hot distortion behaviour of chemically bonded and resin coated foundry sands. By heating a standard specimen under controlled conditions and recording its movement to 0.01 mm, the tester plots a complete hot distortion curve that shows how a given sand-and-binder combination will behave at casting temperatures.
Why foundries use a hot distortion tester
The hot distortion test is one of the most informative checks in the core room. It helps foundry metallurgists diagnose and prevent sand-binder defects such as dilation, veining, shake-out problems and stressed castings, and it brings down the high development cost of difficult cored castings. Comparing distortion curves lets you qualify new binders, benchmark suppliers and set repeatable process limits.
Key features
- Fully automated, fail-safe heating mechanism with single-touch operation
- Sensing and recording to 0.01 mm accuracy across a 0-15 mm distortion range
- VSync web sync: every hot distortion curve is logged to the cloud so you can store, retrieve, compare and analyse results across your foundry from any browser
- Statistical curve limits, ideal-curve comparison and run charts at set time intervals
- Simple operator interface to declare and judge pass/fail results

Recommended companion equipment
Specimen preparation needs a Universal Shooter (VUS), Cold Box Shooter (VSSC) or Hot Box Shooter (VSS), together with the shell transverse curing accessory (VTGA) and specimen accessory (VTGB) as required.
Safety: the test uses an open flame. Check all gas connections for leaks before starting and never handle the burner flame directly.
