Fully Automatic Loss on Ignition Tester VLOI-FA

The Versatile VLOI-FA automates the loss on ignition test: it weighs the sample, fires it at 982 °C, cools it and weighs it again, reporting the result to AFS 5100-12-S with a record kept for the quality file.

Overview

See it explained: the mass loss curve, why the run ends on burn rate rather than a timer, and holding LOI on a control chart, on our Loss on Ignition feature page.

The Versatile VLOI-FA runs the loss on ignition test from start to finish. It weighs the sample, fires it, cools it and weighs it again, then reports the loss as a percentage to AFS 5100-12-S. The firing step completes on a burn rate check rather than a fixed timer, so the result follows the sample instead of the clock.

Application

Loss on ignition measures what burns away from a sand sample. In green sand it tracks the carbon carriers such as sea coal, along with the residue that builds up in a running system. In resin coated and chemically bonded sand it indicates how much binder sits on the grain. Both readings feed decisions that show up in the casting: gas defects and veining when the figure runs high, weak bonding and poor surface when it runs low. The test also applies to bentonite and pre-blends.

Supplied with: the main unit with integrated furnace and balance, three refractory crucibles and tongs. A Class F1 or E2 calibration weight set and a temperature verification kit are recommended alongside, and the unit needs adequate ventilation with an exhaust.

Safety & care. The furnace runs hot. Let it cool before handling crucibles, use the tongs supplied, and keep the exhaust clear.
